Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 3 March 2026 at St Ninian’s, Newcombe Crescent, Karori at 7pm. Members and friends welcome.

The meeting on 3 March will be in two parts:

At 7pm, we are holding a Special General Meeting to approve changes to our constitution and the decision to reregister in order to meet the requirements of the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. This will be followed at 7.30pm by our speaker, Charlotte MacDonald, who will be talking about her new book Garrison World

Please read through this document of what the Society must do during the SGM.

Garrison World

Join us for a talk by Victoria University history professor Charlotte Macdonald. Charlotte will be talking about her new book Garrison World.

Garrison World explores the lives of soldiers, sailors and their families stationed in Aotearoa New Zealand and across the British empire in the nineteenth century. Spanning the decades from 1840 to 1870, this major new history places the New Zealand Wars within the wider framework of imperial power. It shows how conflict and resistance throughout the empire, from rebellion in India to the Morant Bay uprising in Jamaica, were connected to the colonial project in New Zealand.

You can find out more about the book here, otherwise we hope you can join us for what will be a fascinating talk. Please feel free to share this event with friends and family.

Please note that both meetings are being held at St Ninians on Tuesday 3 March; the Special General Meeting at 7pm, followed by our public meeting and speaker at 7.30pm.

We hope to see you all there.
